A City Icon Awaiting Transformation.

The Brandão Family Palace is the most iconic private building in Oliveira de Azeméis, located within the Porto Metropolitan Area and positioned at the very heart of the city’s historic centre. Recognised for its architectural and cultural value, it is highlighted by the Municipality as one of the city’s key points of interest, reflecting the historical significance it has carried through generations.

Built at the end of the 19th century, the palace displays clear influences of French Neoclassicism, preserving the elegance and formal expression characteristic of that period. Surrounded by remarkable stories, the residence welcomed, in 1930, the Portuguese President Óscar Carmona, who chose the palace as his lodging during an official visit to the city.

The main building, comprising around 30 rooms distributed across four floors, features a gross building area of approximately 1,536 m², revealing the scale and grandeur that define its heritage character.

The property currently has an approved Preliminary Information Request (PIP) for the development of a senior residence. The proposal includes a total gross building area of 7,807 m² on a plot of 4,350 m², establishing a contemporary vision that respects the existing heritage while assigning it a new social purpose.

This iconic building represents a unique opportunity to rehabilitate and revitalise a historic landmark of the city, bringing together memory, architecture and future in an intervention of significant cultural and urban value.
