Biscaínhos Building
— Braga, Portugal
History Integrated into Urban Function
From Derelict Building to Contemporary Urban Ensemble.
This project started with a ruined building located on the iconic Rua do Biscaínhos, in the heart of Braga’s historic centre. Despite the building’s deteriorated state, the original facade was carefully preserved, maintaining the typical architectural identity of the area and ensuring continuity within the historic urban fabric.
Originally a single-family building, it was transformed into a contemporary solution, resulting in three exclusive apartments and one store, all designed in a customized manner according to the preferences and needs of future clients. The intervention combined comfort, functionality, and modern aesthetics, while respecting the historic character of the façade and the surrounding context.
The construction faced significant challenges related to access and logistics, typical of Braga’s historic centre. Careful management of materials and equipment was essential to complete the rehabilitation without compromising the building’s integrity or the safety of the surrounding urban environment.
The final result is an intervention that unites history and modernity, transforming a derelict property into a functional, elegant urban ensemble fully integrated into the historic centre of Braga.
